Product details
'Coquecigrues', a fanciful motif printed using the woodblock technique at the Oberkampf factory in Jouy-en-Josas, circa 1792, was the starting point for a contemporary creation by artist Christian Astuguevieille. He loves reworking the Toile de Jouy codes and combining them with his own imagery, which he calls 'imaginary writing'. The Toile de Jouy motif appears intermittently, as do the historic geometric backgrounds of the famous factory, below the lines drawn with India ink and a brush created by the artist. The original document is kept in the Toile de Jouy Museum in Jouy-en-Josas.
