Striking and contemporary, Queen's Quarter is sumptuous geometry, borrowed from a little detail within a much larger scheme of Verrio murals. The irregular octagons appear as corner vignettes in the Queen's drawing room at Hampton Court Palace, the decoration of which was commissioned by Queen Anne as a grand statement of her royal majesty and imperial power. The murals as a whole are designed to give the illusion of a marble hall opening to the sky, with the walls painted to look like rugs with wide floral borders and gold fringes. However, it is the polished metal of Queen's Quarter that struck the creative team at Cole & Son, the understated repetition and elegant detail revealed a hidden gem within the much larger traditional scheme.
